Wanted robbery suspect pulled from bike in Sutton by police dog

A wanted robbery suspect was pulled from his bike and detained by a police dog in Sutton town centre.

PD Max and his handler were on patrol on Saturday, November 17 when they spotted the man shortly after 6pm.

The suspect, also wanted on suspicion of more than a dozen shop thefts, attempted to flee by pedalling furiously along Forest Street.

He was, however, no match for Max, who soon made up the ground and pulled him from his machine.

A 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of robbery and theft.

Sgt Nick Dachtler, of Nottinghamshire Police’s dog section, said: “Anyone trying to outrun Max uphill on a pedal cycle is either not thinking clearly, or is in contention for a place in next year’s Tour de France.

“Unsurprising there was only one winner in this particular race – which was over in a matter of seconds.

“Max is one of our biggest but also fastest dogs, who has a well-earned reputation for chasing down and detaining suspects in double quick time.”
