Mourners have begun laying tributes at the scene of where a body was found in Mansfield last night.
The body, thought to be that of 13-year-old schoolgirl Amber Peat, was found in a hedgerow between Westfield Lane and Parliament Road.
Hundreds gathered in horror as police cordoned off the area and set up a forensic tent at around 7.30pm last night.
The area remained cordoned off this morning, but many have begun to lay flowers and cuddly toys at a tree nearby.
Danielle Blount, who helped organise the community search parties, said: “There’s ever such a sad atmosphere, and everybody is leaving messages.
“People are just saying they just can’t piece together what has happened.”
Police are carrying out a post-mortem and formal identification is expected to be announced later today.
