UPDATE: 25-year-old arrested after eight injured in six vehicle smash in Kirkby

Police have arrested a 25-year-old man on suspicion of serious injury by dangerous driving following a serious crash in Kirkby.

Emergency services were called to the collision which involved six vehicles at the junction of the A611 Derby Road and the B6139 Coxmoor Road.

The collision took place shortly before 6.40pm last night (Sunday, August 30) and eight people were injured.

Officers from Nottinghamshire Police closed Coxmoor Road between Cauldwell Road and Kirkby Road, Ravenshead overnight.

They also closed Derby Road from the junction of Diamond Avenue.

The roads were re-opened this afternoon.

Detective Sergeant Adam Cooper from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit is leading the investigation.

He said: "This was a very serious incident. There are still three people in hospital being treated for serious Injuries following the collision, although none of the injuries are believed to be lifethreatening.

"A man has since been arrested and remains in police custody.

"We are now appealing for any information to help with our enquiries.

"If anyone witnessed the collision or has dash cam footage and not already spoken to the police then we are very keen to hear from them.

"We are interested in a silver coloured Honda Civic which was travelling from the direction of the M1 Junction 27 towards Mansfield at around 6.40pm.
