Two women sexually assaulted in Kirkby and Sutton incidents

Police investigating two reports of sexual assaults in the Ashfield district are urging members of the public to be vigilant and appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

A woman was walking along Glenside, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, at around 9.10pm on Wednesday (August 19) when a man got out of a small silver van or people carrier, grabbed her from behind and assaulted her. She managed to fight the suspect off and ran home.

Nottinghamshire Police received a further report of a woman who was assaulted in Sutton at about 10.15pm on Wednesday.

She was walking along Mansfield Road, heading towards King’s Mill Hospital, when a man approached her from behind and assaulted her before running off.

Police are currently treating the incidents as linked as they investigate lines of enquiry including checking for CCTV and forensic opportunities.

It's believed the suspect is white, between 5ft 8in and 6ft tall and of small to medium build.

Detective Inspector Craig Hall, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "We're continuing to work hard on this case and investigate lines of enquiry. The victims are being supported by specially-trained officers.

"I appreciate these incidents may cause some concern for members of the public. I want to reassure them that we are doing all we can to identify this man and to keep our communities safe and we have also stepped up patrols to provide reassurance.

"We would urge people to remain vigilant while we carry on with our enquiries.

"It’s always good advice for people to stay alert and be aware of their surroundings and to report any suspicious activity to us immediately.

"We're also urging for anyone who may have been in the area and who has any information about this incident to please get in touch with us.

"If you recognise the person or vehicle from the descriptions given then we’d urge you to please come forward. We’d also like to hear from any drivers who may have captured dashcam footage of these incidents.

Anyone with any information is urged to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 740 of 19 August 2020 (Kirkby-in-Ashfield incident) or 787 of 19 August 2020 (Sutton-in-Ashfield incident).
