Two arrested after £100,000 cannabis haul found in Mansfield

Officers were called to an address in Mount Pleasant shortly before 3.30pm after they received reports of a disturbance.

Inside they found a well-established cannabis grow in multiple rooms at the property. A total of 145 plants were recovered from inside and an array of electrical growing equipment put beyond use.

Two men, aged 37 and 29, were arrested on suspicion of the production of cannabis and remain in police custody.

Inspector Nick Butler, district commander for Mansfield, said: “This property had been converted into a full-time drug factory and was crammed with cannabis plants and all the equipment needed to grow them. Those plants, which we believe would have been worth around £100,000, have now been removed and destroyed.

“This kind of large-scale cannabis cultivation is hugely damaging to our community – leading to an increase in antisocial behaviour and violent offences. It can also be linked to organised criminal gangs who exploit vulnerable people in their pursuit of profit.

“It is totally unacceptable and will not be tolerated in Mansfield. Clamping down on drug-related crime is one of our key local policing priorities and we intend to keep up the pressure in the weeks and months to come.”

This latest cannabis discovery comes just two weeks after plants worth more than £500,000 were found at a disused industrial premises in Rosemary Street.
