A short time later the van was spotted by officers who were travelling on the A611 Derby Road from Kirkby towards Mansfield.

They followed it a short distance before it came to a stop.

The pair were arrested and searched. The van was also searched and a hatchet was found in the vehicle.

Further information from a member of the public suggested that weapons had been discarded from the vehicle.

An area was searched and a sword was recovered.

The suspects, who were arrested on suspicion of affray, remain in custody.
