Trio sentenced for their roles in violent disturbance on Warsop street

Three young men have been sentenced for their roles in a violent disturbance sparked by a smashed car window in Warsop.

Police were called to Laurel Avenue, Church Warsop, where stones were being hurled, sticks brandished, and two vehicles were damaged, on April 7, 2024, said Dawn Pritchard, prosecuting.

Kurtis Weeks smashed the back window of a Skoda with a metal bar after the window of his silver Mercedes was damaged.

He told police a group of males came at him with weapons, including a knife and a pole, and threatened to run him over.

Keeton Cooper started to throw stones at Weeks before driving his Skoda down a dead end. He was forced to drive back and Weeks rammed the Skoda with his Mercedes.

The parts played by Brad Waring and Lachlan-Bailey James was also recorded on 16 minutes of CCTV footage, said Ms Pritchard.

“The fallout was between these defendants and no one else,” she said. “There was a lot of gesticulating, and threats were made, but no one was injured.”

Clarkson Baptiste said Weeks, who was fined for possessing cannabis in 2024, was of effective good character at the time.

“His lack of maturity and consequential thinking came into play,” he said. “He has come to realise he should have acted in a far different way.”

Ellesse Taylor said Cooper, who received a community order for possessing a blade, has expressed his remorse and taken responsibility for his offending.

He has distanced himself from his peers and is now focussed on landscape gardening, she said.

Philip Plant said James, who has been locked up for violence and weapon offences as a juvenile, went in "all guns blazing" because he has undiagnosed attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

Waring, 23, of Tudor Street, Sutton, James, 22, of Spencer Street, Mansfield, and Cooper, 21, of The Bluebells, Sutton, all admitted affray. Weeks, 24, of Central Drive, Shirebrook, pleaded guilty to affray, criminal damage and dangerous driving.

On Wednesday, Judge Rosalind Coe KC gave James a two-year community order with mental health treatment. Weeks received 27 weeks, suspended for 18 months, with unpaid work and rehabilitation days. He was banned for 12 months.

Cooper received a two-year community order with unpaid work and rehabilitation days.

Waring, who is on remand until June to face separate allegations, will be sentenced after his trial.
