Tributes paid to 'lovely guy' who died after being attacked in Shirebrook - sparking murder investigation

Tributes have been paid to a ‘wonderful’ man who died after being assaulted in Shirebrook – triggering a murder probe.

Police were called to an allotment off Prospect Drive at around 10am on Sunday and found the body of 55-year-old Andrew Jackson.

A Derbyshire Constabulary spokesperson said: “He suffered injuries that would suggest he had been assaulted and we have launched a murder inquiry.”

Tributes have come in for Mr Jackson on social media.

Commenting on Facebook, Robert Oakton said: “RIP Andy – such a lovely guy to talk too.

“I hope they find who did this.”

Wendy Louise Land said: “RIP mate.

“I didn’t know you but I’ve read the beautiful comments people have said about you – they say you are a wonderful kind man.

“Much love to you angel.”

Becky Wakefield said: “Simply awful.

“Condolences to his family and friends.”

The police spokesperson added: “Anyone who heard a noise or a disturbance around the Prospect Drive area between 10.30pm on Saturday and 2am the next day is asked to contact us.

“Enquiries have identified that several people were in Prospect Drive, Central Drive and surrounding streets between those times and we are asking them to come forward so we can speak to them as part of our investigation.

“We also want to hear from anyone who lives in the area who might have CCTV or dash cam footage.”
