A danger notice which had been put up at Vicar Water Country Park on Thursday was pulled down by thugs just a few hours later.

The Green Flag award-winning park has been plagued by anti-social behaviour issues – including a catalogue of fire-related incidents during lockdown.

Earlier this week Chad reported how Newark & Sherwood District Council had taken measures to address the problems at the beauty spot by approving a hard-hitting Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) to ban the lighting of fires, barbecues, Chinese lanterns, fireworks or any objects or activities posing a fire risk.

The order has won the support of Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, Nottinghamshire Police, Clipstone Parish Council and the Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust and anyone who breaches it could be hit with a £100 fine

Posting on Facebook, Vicar Water Country Park said: “Such a shame that our new playground sign containing safety and emergency information didn’t even last one day. Parents have your kids been out at night causing damage in the park?”

Ward councillor Paul Peacock also hit out at the vandals.

He said: “It's so frustrating. Newark & Sherwood District Council are doing a great job making the park a fantastic place to relax and enjoy being outside and a very small majority take pleasure in spoiling that.”
