Three arrested in Mansfield knife and drugs clampdown

Three men have been arrested by officers after being found in possession of bladed weapons and cannabis in Mansfield.

Nottinghamshire police launched a special patrol in Mansfield and stopped and searched nine people across the town on April 7, seizing two weapons and drugs.

A 39 year-old man was stopped and searched whilst in a vehicle and was arrested for possession with a bladed article which was found in the driver's door pocket.

Mark Burton of Occupation Road in Hucknall has since been charged with the offence and is due to appear at Mansfield Magistrates Court on 4 June 2020.

Meanwhile a second man aged 29 was found to be in possession of a knife, cannabis and was arrested under suspicion of drug driving. He has been released under investigation.

The third made aged 25 was stopped whilst driving his vehicle in Mansfield. He was found in possession of cannabis, which was found under the driver’s seat along with deal bags, scales, mobile phones and a large amount of cash. He has been released under investigation.

Police Sergeant Steve King from the Knife Crime Team said: “Most members of the public were complying with the government's instructions regarding lockdown, with open spaces relatively quiet across the county.

"The town centre was significantly quieter than previous days and weeks.

“We will continue with these patrols throughout the coming weeks and months and ensure the streets of Mansfield are safe.”
