Police are now asking for residents to keep outbuildings secure after the crimes in the Leyton Avenue area of Sutton-in-Ashfield, overnight on Tuesday (September 15).

In one of the incidents, police report that the criminals gained access into the house and car keys were taken along with the vehicle which was on the drive way.

In the other break-in, it is believed that the offenders gained entry by removing the door frame to a window and took cleaning products.

Detectives are not linking the crimes to car key burglaries in the Mansfield area where residents were recently warned to be ‘on their guard’ after cars were stolen during two separate burglaries.

The vehicles were taken in the Berry Hill Road area of Mansfield, and Chapel Fields area of Ravenshead, overnight also on Tuesday (September 15

Detective Sergeant Andy Hall said: "My team are carrying out forensic and door to door enquiries as we progress with the investigation."

"Burglaries of any nature are distressing and we treat these crimes incredibly seriously."

"These incidents are rare but outbuildings, garages and sheds can be targeted by opportunist thieves so we'd like to remind residents to remain vigilant and avoid keeping items of any value inside. If possible to utilise security lights or CCTV, they can often act as a deterrent."
