A thief who went on a stealing spree was handed a rehabilitation requirement to keep him off drugs.
Richard Luke Dowdall (23) of Rosemary Street, Mansfield, was hauled before magistrates and admitted trying to take cans of beer from Iceland in Mansfield worth £4, trying to steal DVD box sets worth £15 from Beales in the town centre and curtains from nearby B&M worth £70 on different days in May.
The items were recovered on each occasion, apart from when he stole £22 worth of hair products from Sally Salon Services.
Defending, Donna Pursglove, said her client suffered from depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder following an accident when he was 14 when he was left with a fractured skull.
He takes valium to overcome his problems, but Ms Pursglove said he had become involved in taking heroin, but got himself clean.
She said he was now away from drugs and wants to be regularly tested.
He was given a nine-month community order, told to pay £85 costs, £60 surcharge and pay back the money owed to the salon from where he stole the hair products.
