Sutton man fined £300 for dropping a cigarette

A SUTTON man has been slapped with a £300 fine after he dropped a cigarette in the town.

Daniel Bilton (30), of Jephson Road, appeared at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court last Wednesday where he admitted the offence.

The court was told that on 1st April, Bilton had been spotted dropping the cigarette end by one of Ashfield District Council’s Community Protection Officers (CPOs) at 2.30pm on New Street.

The CPO approached Bilton and asked for his details.

He also told Bilton that he would receive a fixed penalty notice.

Magistrates heard that the fixed penalty had not been paid by Bilton who said he did not remember committing the offence.

Bilton told the court: “I do feel obliged to plead guilty because I can’t provide evidence otherwise.”

Bilton was ordered to pay a £300 fine, pay costs to the council of £255.50 along with a £15 victim surcharge.
