Sutton man charged with stabbing his own brother to death

A Sutton man has been charged with murdering his own brother following a broad daylight knife attack at the side of a busy road in a city suburb.

Thomas Rogers, 26, was discovered slumped at the junction of Bristol Road and Mill Pool Way, in Bournbrook, Birmingham at 4.55pm on Saturday (August 22).

Emergency services rushed to the scene but he was pronounced dead a short time after arriving at hospital from a stab wound to the chest.

West Midlands Police said two men had been charged with murder including his 30-year-old brother Samuel Rogers.

Rogers, of Sutton, is accused of killing Thomas alongside Ryan Hurt, 22, of Mansfield.

Both men have been remanded to appear before Birmingham Crown Court on August 27.

A 40-year-old man has been released with no further action.

A woman aged 28 and a 15-year-old girl who were previously detained have been bailed pending further enquiries.

Two women and a man - aged between 24 and 31 - were also arrested in the South Shields and Jarrow areas in the North East on suspicion of assisting an offender.

They have been released under investigation.

Detective Inspector Stuart Mobberley, from the force's homicide team, said: "This remains a very active enquiry as we seek to establish the full circumstances around this stabbing.

"We've made quick progress but we still need to hear from anyone with information which can assist our investigation.

The tragedy comes as six people were stabbed in Birmingham in just 12 hours of violence which erupted across the city over the weekend.
