Sutton binge drinker who tormented ex-partner so much she moved home twice couldn’t accept her new relationship
A Sutton binge drinker who tormented and threatened his ex-partner so much she had to move home twice couldn’t accept she’d started a new relationship, a court heard.
Jamie Ward wrenched both wing mirrors off his ex’s new partner’s car when it was parked outside the Cuckoo Birch, on April 20 2025, said Lynne Bickley, prosecuting.
And when Ward rang the man and told him: “I am going over and I am going to kill you,” his victim hung up and called the police.
Despite receiving a community order and a restraining order in November last year, Ward shouted: “I am going to kill you. I am going to knock you out,” when he spotted the couple outside the Bridge Tavern on June 2, 2026.

As he passed his male victim he said, “I will see you in court,” before lunging and “unintentionally” headbutting him. Ward was arrested in possession of cocaine.
Ward bombarded the woman with 48 Whatsapp messages and texts, as well as attempted video calls between July 14 and 16.
In a statement his ex-partner said Ward’s behaviour has been an ongoing issue since the relationship ended.
She has had to move twice because of him, and her children have had to change schools because Ward put them in fear.
The court heard he has 12 previous convictions for 19 offences dating back to 2011, including criminal damage and harassment. He has since been convicted of driving offences and drunk and disorderly behaviour.
Mark Stocks, mitigating, said his offending increased as his mental health deteriorated, leading him to binge drink to the point he can't remember what happened.
All the offences were committed against the background of an on-off six-year relationship that ended in April last year.
“He struggled very badly with the fact she had started a new relationship," said Mr Stocks, adding that Ward had been helped by the local mental health team who ensured he took his anti-psychotic medication and was under the care of a psychiatric hospital.
The 36-year-old, of Jephson Road, Sutton, admitted harassment - breach of a restraining order on conviction, drug possession and assault, at previous hearings. He was convicted of criminal damage and making threats on June 12.
On Wednesday, August 19, magistrates in Mansfield handed him a 52-week prison term, suspended for 24 months, with 15 rehabilitation order and a six-month alcohol programme.
He was ordered to pay £700 compensation to his victims and a two-year restraining order was imposed.
