Sledgehammer used by thieves to steal cigarettes from Mansfield shop

Burglars stole thousands of pounds of cigarettes after using a sledgehammer to gain access to a Mansfield newsagents.

The burglary happened at Macs newsagents on Chesterfield Road North at about 1am today (Wednesday).

Two men got out of a BMW, which had stolen number plates, and used a sledgehammer to smash their way in through the front door.

Once inside they broke into a cabinet and left with the cigarettes before making off in the car.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to call 101, quoting incident number 40 of October 10 2018.
