Shopkeeper threatened with large knife as Mansfield shop is robbed

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man armed with a knife and wearing tights over his head robbed a Mansfield shop on Sunday evening.

A white man dressed in dark clothing entered The Convenience Store, formerly C&S News, on Newgate Lane at around 7pm and threatened the female shopkeeper with a large kitchen knife.

She fled the shop before he ripped the till, from the counter and fled on foot with it along the adjacent Gladstone Street.

There was a quantity of cash inside the till.

Det Sgt Rick Ellis, of Mansfield CID, said: “Thankfully there were no customers in the shop at the time of the robbery and the shopkeeper was unharmed.

“She was, however, extremely distressed by the ordeal

“Were you in the area at the time? Were you at the welfare club or Chinese takeaway in Gladstone Street?

“This man would have been very conspicuous. He was wearing black tights over his head and carrying a large kitchen knife.

“When he fled the shop he was carrying a large cashier’s till.

“If you saw anything that could help us with this investigation please call us.”

House-to-house enquiries have been made in the area and patrols have been stepped up to provide reassurance.
