Shirebrook teen admits murder after killing of 57-year-old man and pet Jack Russell dog in house
A 19-year-old boy has admitted murdering a 57-year-old man in October.
Logan Proctor pleaded guilty to murder at Derby Crown Court on Friday, January 16. The plea comes after victim Christoper Owen was found with stab wounds and pronounced dead at the scene on an incident at a house in Valley Road, Shirebrook, on October 22 at around 8.45pm.

Also found deceased at the scene was a Jack Russell dog – named as “Poppy” in court – that had also suffered stab wounds. Proctor had initially been charged with causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal.
However this charge had now been “subsumed” into the murder charge, said a prosecutor. The barrister added that during Proctor’s sentencing hearing – in March – that facts in relation to Poppy would be an “important part of the chronology of what happened to Mr Owen”.
Addressing Proctor, Judge Shaun Smith KC told him: “I am going to sentence you for this killing on March 16. The hearing will be for me to decide how long you stay in custody before being eligible for release.
"The actual sentence will be a life sentence. On March 16 I will determine how long you will serve in custody.” Proctor, of Valley Road, Shirebrook, was remanded into custody until his sentence hearing.
