A motorist who was spotted not wearing a seat belt turned out to be over the drink-drive limit, a court was told.
Rado Tofan (35), of Littleworth, Mansfield, had been behind the wheel of a Honda Civic heading along Chesterfield Road South in the town when he was pulled over by police.
They smelled alcohol on his breath and gave him a road-side test.
He was found to have 48mcgs of alcohol in 100mls of breath. The legal limit is 35mcgs.
He was banned from driving for 12 months, handed a £100 fine, made to pay £85 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.
It was agreed by magistrates that he could pay £50 a week.
