A man was hauled before Mansfield magistrates after ‘rugby tackling’ his partner over an argument about Facebook.

Liam Barry Carter (26) of Hartley Road, Kirkby, admitted assault following the incident on 18th July.

The court was told how Carter had been at his partner’s home on Mary Street, Kirkby, and had been drinking.

His partner was stood up on her phone, and Carter accused of her being on Facebook, which he did not like.

When she denied it he didn’t believe her and lunged at her, pushing her back over and causing her to hit the back of her head.

The court was told how the couple were no longer together.

Prosecutor, David Miles compared it to a rugby tackle.

Defending, Marks Stocks, said his client had simply tried to snatch the phone from his partner but used more force than he initially intended.

Dressed in tracksuit bottoms and trainers, Carter was told to return to Mansfield Magistrates’ Court for sentencing on 1st October.
