Detective Inspector Kate Savage, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "Although we'd never condone members of the public taking the law into their own hands and putting themselves in harm's way we commend the bravery shown by the community-minded residents who detained the suspect before officers arrived soon after and arrested him."

A 19-year-old man was arrested in connection with the reports and released on conditional bail.
