Police shut down Sutton flat plagued by drugs and antisocial behaviour

Police have shut down a Sutton flat which had become a magnet for drug crime and antisocial behaviour.

Officers from the Sutton-in-Ashfield neighbourhood policing team worked alongside colleagues from Ashfield District Council to secure a full closure order on flat number 8, Leamington Hall flats.

The now boarded-up property had become a hot spot for antisocial behaviour, drug use and suspected drug dealing.

The three-month closure order will remain in force for three months, expiring on 6 October 2026 and prohibits anyone, including the occupiers, from entering the property for the duration of the closure.

Any breach of the order is a criminal offence and may result in a fine, imprisonment, or both.

Sergeant Tim Hather, of the Sutton neighbourhood policing team, said: “These issues were severely impacting on people’s lives, so I hope this order gives residents in the wider community some respite.

“Securing these orders requires a great deal of work from multiple agencies before the case is presented to magistrates.

“This positive result has only been possible thanks to close and coordinated partnership between police and our council partners and we hope residents living around this property can now feel safer in their homes.

“We will continue to work in tandem to tackle the most serious antisocial behaviour and criminality in our communities and will use all powers at our disposal.”
