Police in seven-hour stand off with Sutton-in-Ashfield man after alleged assault

Police spent seven hours negotiating with a man who barricaded himself inside a house following an alleged incident of domestic violence.

Officers flooded Jephson Road in Sutton-in-Ashfield at around 10am this morning following reports a woman had been assaulted inside the property.

A Nottinghamshire Police spokesperson said the woman’s injuries were not life-threatening or life-altering and she left the scene, but concerns grew for the man when he refused to come out of the house.

The spokesperson added: “Negotiators were called in and after several hours of careful discussion a man left the house and was taken into police custody at around 5.20pm.

"He has been arrested on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm."

Chief inspector Andy Rooke from Nottinghamshire Police said: "Thanks to the efforts of officers on the scene, including trained negotiators, the incident has now come to a safe conclusion and a man has been taken into police custody."
