Later that morning the victim went out the back of his house to his shed. When he went back into his home he found the same man in his lounge.

The man engaged him in conversation and asked for a drink of water.

The victim, although shocked by the man’s presence, obliged.

The offender then used his sleeve to cover his hand as he drank from the cup before washing it out under the tap.

After the man had left his address the victim discovered a small quantity of cash had been stolen.

It all happened between 10am and 11.45am on July 5.

Detective Constable Gary Hewson, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "We're really keen to identify the man pictured as he may be able to assist with our enquiries.

"If you recognise him or think you can help please call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 416 of 5 July 2020, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

"We're also urging residents to be vigilant. Don't answer your door to unexpected callers. Official callers will always make an appointment in advance.

"Unfortunately distraction burglars and rogue traders tend to prey on the most vulnerable people and we would urge anyone with elderly or vulnerable relatives or neighbours to keep an eye on anyone calling at their house, where possible."
