Police officers were assaulted by a 17-year-old boy who was allegedly resisting arrest in Mansfield.

Two people are thought to have run away from police when officers moved to speak with them in Thoresby Street in Mansfield at around 8.30pm last night (Friday 16 October).

It is believed that they hid in a garden nearby. When approached by police, a boy allegedly physically assaulted officers, causing minor injuries.

A knife and a quantity of drugs were also recovered at the scene.

A 17-year-old boy is in custody on suspicion of assaulting a police officer, possession of a knife and possession of drugs.

Inspector Simon Riley, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Officer assaults are totally unacceptable and we will always take appropriate action against those who commit such offences.

“We will be ensuring that the officers are supported and we will investigate this report thoroughly.

“I would ask that anyone who may have seen this incident to get in touch with police as soon as possible.”
