Police investigation into killing of Doncaster newborn baby by dog continues

Police in Doncaster are continuing to investigate the death of a newborn baby who was mauled to death by a family pet at the weekend.

Officers have arrested a 35-year-old man and 27-year-old man on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter following the 12-day-old baby’s death on Sunday after he was savaged by a dog at an address in Welfare Road, Woodlands.

Earlier today, the baby was named locally as Elon in national newspaper reports.

Emergency services were called to the house at around 3.30pm on Sunday after receiving reports that the child had been attacked by the dog, understood to be a Chow Chow crossbreed called Teddy.

Elon was taken to hospital with serious injuries but sadly died later in hospital.

Police forensics teams have spent the past few days combing the scene of the tragedy and on Monday the house was guarded by a number of police vehicles.

The pair have been bailed while investigations continue.
