Police hunt Pleasley pub thief

Police are hunting a thief after a burglary in a Pleasley pub, which may be linked to similar pub raids in Clowne, Barlborough and Whitwell.

They are also urging licensees, staff and residents to look out for any suspicious people or activity around local premises.

Pleasley Miners Institute, on Chesterfield Road, Pleasley, was targeted at around 11.30pm on Monday 2nd June,

Manager Ian Power said the raiders forced their way through fire doors and took cash from the ‘grabbing’ machines for children.

He said the damage had been repaired, but added: “The fact they have damaged the machines and were in here was the worst part.”

A member of staff at the Apollo Inn on High Street, Barlborough, disturbed a man attempting to steal cash from the till at around 10.45am on Sunday 1st June. The most recent incident happened sometime overnight between Wednesday 11th June and Thursday 12th June at the Nags Head on North Road, Clowne. Cash was stolen.

A television, cash and alcohol was taken during a break-in at the Holmefield Arms on Station Road, Whitwell, sometime between 1.30am and 2.30am on Tuesday 3rd June.

The man was described as being white, aged in his 20s, slim with ginger coloured hair and was wearing a black coat.

Enquiries are being carried out into the incidents but officers are unsure if they are linked at this stage.

Temporary Sergeant Dan Saunby said: “We are currently investigating these incidents, and I would encourage anyone with any information to contact us. I would also urge licensees and staff to make sure that they secure their premises whenever they are closed and to report any suspicious activity or people in the local area to police.”
