Police find man wanted for Mansfield hammer attack hiding in a cupboard

A 31-year-old man wanted for a Mansfield hammer attack which hospitalised a 47-year-old man with a fractured skull - has been found hiding in a kitchen cupboard.

During the March 28 sustained attack – at a property in Sandy Lane - the injured man was struck “numerous” times in the head with the weapon - but he has since been discharged.

Detectives had been searching for the suspect since then however today they arrested the 31-year-old on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm in connection with the attack.

Detective Sergeant Matt Scott, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "This was a vicious and sustained attack with a hammer causing serious injuries to the victim.

"He was hit numerous times in the head with a hammer and the outcome of this incident could have easily been much more serious.”

However he added the two people are known to each other so there was no wider threat to the community.
