A soldier brought down by a police dog after a car chase was ordered to pay more than £338 in fines and costs.

Stefan Palethorpe, aged 24, of Beacon Drive, Kirkby, admitted the charge of failing to stop when instructed to by police.

Mansfield Magistrates’ Court was told an unmarked police car had spotted two vehicles driving at speed in the town centre on Saturday, September 5, last year.

The officer pursued one of the vehicles, a Volkswagen Golf, from which Palethorpe eventually fled.

A police dog was then sent after him.

Magistrates heard he had to be taken to hospital for the injuries caused by the dog.
