Police confronted by man wielding machete after early hours Mansfield call out

Police investigating a smell of cannabis were confronted by a man brandishing a machete near Mansfield.

Patrolling officers attended a property in Chesterfield Road North, Pleasley, at 1.52am today (Saturday, November 14) where a man came to the door holding a machete.

A 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of affray and remains in police custody. No one was hurt.

Officers seized a machete and also recovered a baseball bat, lock knife, knuckle dusters and two air rifles and found cannabis-growing paraphernalia following a subsequent search.

Detective Chief Inspector Natasha Todd, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "Threats to officers carrying out their lawful duty are treated with the utmost seriousness.

"Police will always investigate suspected drugs activity which is often connected to other offences including weapons possession and violence."

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 66 of Saturday, November 14.
