Nottinghamshire Police welcome Home Office’s campaign to challenge abusive behaviours
Nottinghamshire Police officers have welcomed the Home Office’s hard-hitting ‘ENOUGH’ campaign to challenge abusive behaviours that have become increasingly and concerningly normalised.
As part of Nottinghamshire Police Walk in My Shoes campaign, more than 3,600 women and girls told police how they feel in Nottinghamshire, and a wide-ranging package of improvements are now underway in partnership with local authorities to address identified areas of concern.
Detective Chief Inspector Gail Routledge, our safeguarding lead, said: “We see the devastating reality of violence against women and girls every day – and enough is enough.
“The safety of women and girls across our city and county is of paramount importance, and as you would expect, we take all reports of this nature extremely seriously.

“Abuse doesn’t always start with being punched or kicked – often, it begins with patterns of coercive and controlling behaviour.
“Monitoring a partner’s movements, isolating them from friends or family, or making them feel powerless through fear and manipulation is abuse.
“This insidious behaviour is exposed through the campaign’s metaphor of a creeping snake, revealing the realities of these everyday actions to help enable young men and boys to recognise forms of abuse.
“Nottinghamshire Police is committed to protecting women and girls from violence and abuse, and we work closely with key partners to prevent harm, support victims, and create safer communities for everyone.
“Let me be clear, all forms of abuse that target both men and women are unacceptable, but the harrowing reality is that a woman is killed on average every three days in the UK.
“Meaningful change starts with young men and boys taking accountability and challenging harmful behaviour.
