Nottinghamshire Police evacuate part of city centre after bomb scare

Police have put a cordon in place in Nottingham city centre today after reports of a suspicious package.

Officers were called just after 10.20am today (24 February) to Manvers Court in Manvers Street, Nottingham.

The army’s bomb disposal unit has been called to the location, in line with the protocol on suspicious packages.

The area is currently being evacuated by police.

Manvers Street has been closed down to Pennyfoot Street, while Beaumont Street is closed on both sides.

Chief Inspector Chris Sullivan, overseeing the evacuation, said: “I understand incidents like this cause concern in the community, but I would like to reassure people that we are putting safety first. We are taking every precaution until we can be completely sure of the nature of the package which has been reported to us.

“People should follow the advice of officers in the area and speak to them if they have any concerns.”
