A burglar who smashed the window of a house and stole jewellery has been jailed.

Derby Crown Court heard how Raymond Randall, 68, broke into the property in Pavilion Gardens, in New Houghton, by throwing a brick through a window.

He made off with digital camera and a large quantity of jewellery during the break-in, which happened overnight between June 18 and 19, according to police.

Derbyshire Constabulary revealed that Randall, of Wolverhampton Street, Willenhall, in the West Midlands, was arrested after blood found at the scene brought a positive DNA match.

He pleaded guilty to burglary and was sentenced on August 8 to two years and five months in prison.
