MPs welcome £12million funding boost for Nottinghamshire police force

News of an additional £12million boost for the county’s police force this year has been welcomed by MPs in Mansfield and Ashfield.

The Government has announced that policing will receive up to £15.8billion in 2021-22 – an increase of £636 million on last year.

This includes more than £400 million to recruit 20,000 extra police officers by 2023.

Nottinghamshire Police has already benefited from an additional 100 officers.

The news has been warmly welcomed by Mansfield MP Ben Bradley, as well as MP for Ashfield Lee Anderson.

Mr Anderson said: “Our police have been doing a fantastic job keeping our community safe this year.

"I regularly meet with Inspector Mark Dickson and sergeant Kate Long to discuss crime in Ashfield, so I am delighted that I can report to them that they will receive this additional funding to help them with all the hard work that they do.

“One of the manifesto promises on which I was elected was to support our police with 20,000 more officers, so I welcome the progress that Government is making to deliver on this, and I will continue to fight to make sure that Ashfield gets its fair share of the new officers.”

The funding will be also be used to bolster counter-terrorism policing, including money for armed policing and more officers.

Ben Bradley MP said: “We owe officers across Nottinghamshire an immense amount of gratitude for the sacrifices they make everyday to keep our community safe.

“I’ve really been pushing Government to increase funding and support for police forces.
