Motorists are being reminded to check their tyres after police made a dangerous discovery whilst out on patrol in Mansfield

Officers from Mansfield Neighbourhood Policing team pulled over this vehicle during routine local patrols in Mansfield over the bank holiday weekend.

This one fell well short of the legal 1.6mm minimum tread depth, with the rubber completely worn through and the internal cords exposed.

The driver has been reported for the offence and was required to change the tyre at the roadside before continuing their journey.

A police spokesman said: “After a long summer, the weather is starting to turn, making now the time to check your tyres.

“Driving on tyres in this condition severely compromises grip and structural integrity, drastically increasing stopping distances and the risk of a blowout—issues that only worsen as autumn rain and winter conditions set in.

“Please take a moment to check your tread depth and sidewalls today.”
