Member of the public helped detain driver who stole a caravan near Ollerton

Officers were able to identify a reported car involved in the offence after gathering local intelligence from Derbyshire Police to make an arrest.

The vehicle was spotted towing a caravan travelling through Nottinghamshire by Operational Support and local officers and was located in Boughton near Ollerton.

A 39 year-old man was arrested on suspicion of theft of the caravan, burglary, driving with no insurance, drug driving and going equipped.

A second car was also circulated to officers and was spotted by Operational Support officers in Newark.

After a brief pursuit, the car was abandoned on the outskirts of Newark.

The driver was pursued by a member of the public who helped to detain him, before officers arrived.

A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary, dangerous driving, driving, theft of the caravan and failing to stop for officers.

Detective Sergeant Ricky Ellis, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "We’d like to thank the member of the public who joined officers in chasing down an alleged suspect in relation to the offence. They showed great bravery.

“We are pleased to have arrested two people for a host of offences including theft, burglary and a number of driving offences.

“Nottinghamshire Police takes incidents of this nature very seriously and will always look to take action against offenders.

“Thankfully, no one was injured in the police pursuit but as with all dangerous driving, the potential consequences are incredibly serious.”
