Mansfield Woodhouse man set for Crown Court date after clutch of guns allegedly found at his home

A cache of blank-firing pistols has been discovered during a police raid at a house in Mansfield Woodhouse.

Officers stormed the home in Marples Avenue at 7.20pm on Tuesday, July 6, and found the 15 weapons in a garage along with equipment to convert them into live-firing handguns, Nottinghamshire Police have revealed.

Detective Inspector Tim Walters said: “This represents a really significant triumph in our fight against gun crime.

"Typically, 15-20 illegally held firearms are seized across the region in any year period – to seize 15 in a single raid is fantastic news.".

Andrew Wheelhouse, aged 40, of Marples Avenue, Mansfield Woodhouse, has been charged in connection with this incident.

He was remanded in custody at Mansfield Magistrates' Court when he appeared on Thursday, July 8, and will appear before a judge at Nottingham Crown Court on 30 July.

Raids also took place at addresses in Giltbrook and Bilborough.
