Mansfield woman jailed after spitting in police officer's face in benefits row

Kirsty Godson, of Hollington Way, Mansfield, pleaded guilty and was sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court yesterday (23 January).

Godson, 47, was convicted of three counts of actual bodily harm, two counts of assaults on emergency workers and criminal damage to a body worn camera.

Godson went to Mansfield Civic Centre because of an issue with her benefits, and became abusive towards a member of the public before repeatedly punching him.

A neighbourhood warden for Mansfield District Council heard about the disturbance over her radio and went to help, but was headbutted by Godson causing an injury to the warden's nose.

Officers from Nottinghamshire Police were called and arrived shortly after.

Godson became aggressive towards them, spitting in the face of one officer and causing a puncture wound to his hand. She kicked another in the face, damaging their body worn camera in the process.

Both officers received medical treatment at King's Mill Hospital and received welfare support.
