In a separate incident, a man in custody allegedly threw a shoe at an officer in Mansfield police station at around 5am on Friday.

A 43-year-old man remains in custody in connection with the incident.

Superintendent Paul Burrows, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Emergency worker assaults are completely unacceptable and we will always look to take appropriate action against those who are found to have committed such offences.

“Sadly, throughout the pandemic we have seen a few incidents where people have thought it acceptable to spit at emergency workers.
