A controlling Mansfield thug who laughed when police showed him pictures of the horrific injuries he'd inflicted on his ex-partner told her: "I don't give a f*** about you or that child."

Jack Poole began physically and mentally abusing his victim after the birth of their daughter in March 2023 and the violence lasted for the next 16 months, said Rebecca Coleman, prosecuting.

He would control who she could talk to, what she could wear, what pictures she could post on social media and isolated her from her friends.

The court heard Poole strangled her so she struggled to breathe on at least four occasions and left her with a cut windpipe.

He left burn marks on her shin with the wheel of his bike while she was holding their child and threw a mug at her head.

He repeatedly punched her in the mouth, leaving her with bruising and split lips and struggling to eat for days afterwards.

During a phone call he told her: “I don’t give a fuck about you or that child. I am going on holiday and you can’t do anything about it.”

The final attack happened on August 19, 2024, when she was getting ready to go to work and asked if he wanted a coffee.

Poole forced her face into the wall and when she slapped him and caused his nose to bleed, he chased and punched her while wearing rings which left her face bleeding, extremely swollen and bruised.

When he was interviewed Poole claimed he had only slapped her in self-defence, and either denied the allegations or said she was mentally ill and lying.

“When he was presented with pictures of her injuries he laughed and made vulgar comments about her appearance,” said Ms Coleman

In a statement his victim said she lost friends and weight, suffered such severe anxiety she wouldn't go out and contemplated cosmetic surgery as a result of his constant criticism.

Nottingham Crown Court heard he has previous convictions for possessing cannabis with intent to supply in 2019, and drug driving in 2025.

Poole, aged 25, of Yorke Street, Mansfield Woodhouse, admitted intentional strangulation, criminal damage, and controlling and coercive behaviour on the day of his trial.

Alex Wolfson, mitigating, said: “His best hope is of getting some help to deal with what must have been serious jealousy and anger management.

"More importantly it would prevent any recurrence of this sort of behaviour. He is sorry for the things he has done to her.”

On Thursday Judge Mark Spencer sentenced him to three years in prison. A restraining order was made for 15 years.
