Mansfield teenager caught over the limit on drugs when police spotted him pulling out of well-known 'smoking spot'

A Mansfield teenager has been banned from driving after he was caught driving while under the influence of drugs.

Joseph Riley appeared before Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, November 25 where he admitted the offence.

Prosecuting, Robert Carr told the court that the 19.year-old was pulled over in Warsop on January 5 after police spotted him pulling out of a carpark well known to be used by drug-takers.

“He smelt of cannabis and a small amount of the drug was found in his car,” he said.

Riley, of Eastwood Avenue, Warsop, Mansfield, had 8.9 units of cannabis to one litre of blood, when the legal limit is two.

Mitigating, Lesley Pidcock, said that at the time of his arrest, Riley had been working in a care home and had been using cannabis to cope with the stress the work was causing him.

He was banned from driving for 12 months, fined £220 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £32 victim surcharge.
