Mansfield surgery fully operating despite arson attack on building

Despite having its premises damaged in an arson attack last Tuesday, a Mansfield surgery has quickly got back on its feet to avoid further disruption to its patient care.

Roundwood Surgery's executive partner Dr Milind Tadpatrikar said the practice started to fully operate a day after the incident.

He clarified that the surgery was only shut temporarily on the day of the incident but they managed to resume work on the same day thanks to the help by other medical staff in the area.

He said: "The surgery was declared as a crime scene and processed by Fire Investigators and CSI. Hence we couldn't see any patients from our main surgery at Wood Street.

"We moved our base to our branch surgery in Forest Town. Doctors and nurses were redeployed and some working from the branch surgery and others from the Rosewood Primary Care Network practices."

Dr Tadpatrikar said medical practices - Churchside, Acorn, Millview and Forest surgeries - have helped in offering their clinical rooms so that they could function as normal.

"Once the police handed the surgery back to us, the electrician, window fitter and cleaners made the place safe and clean so that we could be fully operational the next day.

"Full service resumed from Roundwood surgery on Wood Street from Wednesday, minus the damaged clinic room.

"Roundwood staff have always been dedicated and hardworking. They all were fantastic during the current crisis.

"They did everything in their powers, so that there was minimal disruption to patient care.

"I cannot put in words my thanks and gratitude to all my hard working staff and my colleague Rosewood PCN practices who helped us.

Emergency services were called at around 5am on Tuesday to the surgery following the incident, in which a fire was found burning inside.

The fire is now being treated as arson following an extensive police and fire investigation.
