Police were given new powers to ensure people are abiding by the lockdown rules, allowing them to disperse gatherings using ‘reasonable force’ and impose hefty fines, but residents are still refusing to stick to them.

One angry resident reported that her neighbours were already on their second warning after having large gatherings in their garden:

“Fuming – they have already been warned by the police and are ignoring the guidelines.

“My Mum is classed as a vulnerable person, this is just not fair”

Neighbourhood Inspector Nick Butler, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “I’d like to thank the vast majority of people who have been complying with the new legislation.

“We will only use enforcement as a last resort, however, when we deem it is necessary to enforce our powers, we will not hesitate to take swift action against those who persistently disregard these measures.

“We all need to contribute to the national effort to reduce the spread of the disease.

“People need to stay at home, protect our NHS and save lives.”
