Mansfield pensioner faces sex assault charges against underage girl

A Mansfield pensioner has been sent to the crown court to face sex assault charges against an underage girl.

Charles Mapletoft, aged 77, of Lawrence Avenue, Mansfield Woodhouse, denied three counts of indecent assault and two counts of gross indecency, when he appeared at Nottingham Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

"The matters are too serious for a trial at the magistrates' court to be even contemplated," said district judge Grace Leong.

The defendant's solicitor said Mapletoft denied all five charges on a factual basis.

The case was committed to Nottingham Crown Court for a pre-trial preparation hearing on February 4.

He was granted bail on condition he doesn't contact his alleged victim or visit any addresses he believes her to be residing at.
