Mansfield Neighbourhood Inspector slams 'appalling' school vandalism

Mansfield’s neighbourhood police inspector has slammed ‘appaling’ vandalims that forces a primary school to shut for two days.

Forest Town Primary School, on Clipstone Road West, was closed yesterday and again today, because of vandalism that took place over the weekend.

The school sent a message to parents on Monday, January 20 stating that: "Due to criminal damage to school over the weekend, it is likely that school will have to close today.

A spokesperson for the school said that contractors had attended the school to take samples, which would be sent off for analysis. A report is expected shortly.

It is not yet known what the samples are of.

Nick Butler, Mansfield’s neighbourhood inspector with Nottinghamshire Police said it was ‘appalling’ that the school was forced to close.

He added: “We received a report of criminal damage at Forest Town Primary School yesterday (Monday 20 January 2020).

“We are committed to protecting our communities and is appalling that the school has been forced to close as a result of criminal activity.

“Nottinghamshire Police is investigating this incident and we will work closely with the school to make sure appropriate measures are put in place to help protect the school from further mindless damage.

“It is believed that the damage was caused over the weekend. If you saw anything, please do not hesitate to contact Nottinghamshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 228 of 20 January 2020.”
