Mansfield man who needed the toilet assaulted his wife because she wouldn't give him the keys to their house

A Mansfield man assaulted his wife as they walked back from a wedding because she wouldn’t give him the keys to their house, a court heard.

Lee Shane Childerley was walking back to the property with his wife and their two teenage daughters when the incident happened on October 26 last year when the incident happened.

Nottingham Magistrates’ Court was told on Tuesday, October 6, when an argument broke out.

Prosecuting, Paul Wood said: “There was an argument and the defendant became angry. He wanted the keys to the house and she wouldn’t give them to him because she feated that he would lock her and her daughters out.

“He was shouting ‘give me the f****** keys and he grabbed her wrists and twisted them. His wife said that she dropped the keys at that point because she didn’t want him to do any worse.”

Childerley, 44, of Southwell Road West, Mansfield, admitted assault when he appeared before the court.

Mitigating, Nichola Thorpe told the court: “He told me that 2019 was a difficult year for them with his wife’s father passing away. They had been to the wedding and they’d had an argument.

“He has a medical condition where when he needs to go to the toilet, then he needs to go. Since the incident they’ve had marriage guidance.”

She added that the couple run their own catering business together, which could increase tensions between them.

Magistrates fined Childerley £300 and ordered him to pay £85 in prosecution costs and a £32 victim surcharge.”
