Mansfield man told cops he was self-isolating as passenger in stolen car

A Mansfield man who was travelling as a passenger in a stolen car told police he'd been instructed to self-isolate by the NHS.

Soloman Price was found in a grey Ford Focus, on Chesterfield Road North, Mansfield, at 9.40pm, on November 21, last year, said prosecutor Sukhy Singh.

"Further enquiries revealed he failed to answer bail in Derbyshire the day before," he said.

Price said he couldn't attend because he had been told to self-isolate between November 18-27 and showed officers an NHS email.

"The officer told him he was clearly not self-isolating because he doesn't live with the driver of the car," Mr Singh added.

Price, who represented himself, said he ‘had to go out and about’ – but couldn't explain why he broke the rules.

The 19-year-old, of Rock Street, Mansfield, pleaded guilty to breaching Covid-19 restrictions when he appeared at Nottingham Magistrates Court, on Thursday, March 11.

Magistrates fined him £270 and ordered £85 court costs and a £34 victim surcharge.
