Keane Mtchell Thorpe, of The Hollies, Rainworth, Mansfield, admitted threatening behaviour when he appeared before Chesterfield Magistrates’ Court on Monday, January 20.

The court heard that Thorpe had gone to the Crib Bar, in Church Street Ripley on December 15 last year, and been refused admission because he was drunk and wearing jogging bottoms.

He had gone away, but had returned later in the evening with his mother, when the incident occurred, the court heard.

Prosecuting, Becky Allsop said: “Mr Thorpe had gone to the bar and been refused entry, which he had accepted but he was already drunk at that stage.

“He returned at about 1am with his mother, who was trying to get him in, and she said to the door staff, ‘I don’t think you will let him in’.

“He then said to the doorman, ‘I will stab you, I will get you in the carpark and I will kill you’.

“He said that he had a knife but he didn’t produce one.He then went around the back of the club and said he wanted to meet the doorman the following day.

“Police arrived and the defendant was asked to take his hands out of his pockets but he refused, and the officer deployed his CS spray.”

Thorpe, 20, had previous convictions for violence and was in court twice last year - for disorderly behaviour in May, and for dangerous driving and aggravated vehicle taking in July, for which he received a custodial sentence.

Mitigating, John Last said: “The defendant is well aware that his behaviour was disgraceful and he realised that he has put his future in jeopardy. Since the defendant was released from custody he has taken steps to distance himself from the Alfreton area.”

He added that Thorpe had moved to Mansfield and got a job through his girlfriend’s father and was doing well.

Thorpe was given a 16-week prison term, suspended for 12 months and was ordered to pay £350 in compensation. He was also told to pay £85 in prosecution costs and a £122 victim surcharge.
