Mansfield man thought he was okay to drive after night out at Polish pub

Police spotted the Blue Suzuki Alto being driven by Marcin Ejdys at around 4am on New Year’s Day driving between lanes on Rosemary Street, Mansfield, before stopping at the lights, Mansfield Magistrates’ Court was told on Thursday, January 23.
Ejdys was pulled over nearby and blew 55 microgrammes of alcohol in 100ml of breath, when the legal limit is 35.

Hide AdProsecuting, Robert Carr said: “It was a dual carriageway and the car was weaving between lanes. It then stopped at the green traffic lights at the next junction and stayed there for one full sequence. The vehicle then turned onto Radcliffe Gate where it was stopped.”
Speaking through a Polish translator, Ejdys, 28, of Victoria Street, Mansfield, admitted drink driving when he appeared before the court.
Mitigating, Emma Cornell said: “On the night in question he had been drinking at home and had then gone out to a Polish pub.He felt he was okay to drive but clearly he wasn’t. He works in a sweet factory and lives with housemates.”
Ejdys was banned from driving for 15 months but was offered a drink drive rehabilitation course, which would reduce the disqualification by 114 days if completed by October 28, 2020.
He was also fined £294 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £32 victim surcharge.
