Detective Constable Tracey Marshall of Nottinghamshire Police said: “This was a sustained violent attack that left a victim with serious injuries.

“Thankfully, the woman is on her way to making a full recovery but that does not detract from the fact that this was a brutal incident.

The DC added “Shaw’s guilty plea shows he has remorse for his actions but it is testament to the detectives who worked on this case that he received a jail sentence.

She added: “I hope Shaw uses the time in prison to reflect on his mindless violent actions.”
